Written communication isn't just about words. How words appear on the screen or the page influences how readers understand and perceive them. Organization, layout, colours, headings, and fonts work with or detract from the content.

Web publishing

I know web design and content principles as well as formatting techniques. When I do web writing or editing for you, I can:

• Develop a list of keywords and phrases for your site
• Use those keywords and phrases in the titles, headings, and text for SEO (search engine optimization)
• Format the content in HTML¹ and CSS²
• Create a site outline with information categories and page names
  
  
  ¹HTML: hypertext markup language, the main coding used to structure text and create links when formatting web content.
  ²CSS: cascading style sheet, a way of specifying text and page appearance for an unlimited number of web pages using one style sheet.

Print publishing

A publication designer uses page appearance to make the information as accessible to the reader as possible. I organize content, add emphasis to key parts, use white space effectively, and make the content and design work together.

Print publishing is not my specialty, but if your project is a simple brochure, handout, or other basic publication, I can write the content and create a layout for it.
